Salary:

£46, 804 p.a. + ISLAND ALLOWANCE (IF QUALIFIYING)

Secondment / Job-share may be considered

 

Job purpose

The role of the Head of Education and Learning is to assist and where necessary, to deputise for the Chief Executive in the conduct of Stòrlann's affairs. The Head of Education and Learning will support the Chief Executive in all aspects of Stòrlann business, must be capable of making decisions in his/her absence, and will take a lead role in agreed assigned tasks related to the development priorities of the organisation. The postholder will lead on the development of a multi-year work programme in liaison with the Stòrlann staff and through engagement with the wider Gaelic Education practitioner community. Duties include the commissioning, authoring and creation of materials for the Gaelic Education sector.

Duties

(a)

Responsibility for the leadership, good management, and strategic direction of the Education and Learning team 

(b)

The management of the Education and Learning team and the provision of professional advice and guidance to colleagues

(c)

Management and development of the programme of resources as agreed through the Chief Executive and the Stòrlann Board

(d)

Participation in the selection and appointment of staff

(e)

Promotion of the continuing professional development of all staff and to ensure that all staff have an annual review of their development needs

(f)

Working in partnership with education practitioners, publishers, other professionals, local authority representatives, education agencies and schools

(g)

Management of the health and safety of all within the Education and Learning team

(h)

Leading on the development and delivery of Stòrlann's core publication programme

(i)

Liaising and negotiating with contractors

(j)

Commissioning. writing and editing new materials for the Gaelic education sector

(k)

Providing support and information to teachers as to the use of new resources

(l)

Engaging and communicating with teachers regarding resource requirements

(m)

Aligning products and services with education guidelines and priorities for Gaelic education and participating in training courses as appropriate

(n)

Liaising with appropriate bodies, as agreed by Stòrlann Chief Executive, to enhance Stòrlann’s reputation and standing, and to contribute to resource development in the relevant area

(o)

Extending Stòrlann's information services by all practical means but particularly through newsletters and press releases

(p)

Ensuring that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in a safe manner so that no risk to health and safety arises to you, any other employee or member of the public

(q)

Driving when required to carry out the responsibilities of the post

(R)

Any other duties which are compatible with the grade of the post and may need to be allocated from time-to-time to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the service

Key Responsibilities

1.

Leading the development and delivery of Stòrlann’s resource publication programme, CLPL service and associated online resources

2.

Line management responsibilities for the Education and Learning team

3.

Leading and liaising and negotiating with contractors, resource panels and project teams

4.

Commissioning, authoring and editing Gaelic resources

5.

Providing a CLPL programme for GM teachers and practitioners

6.

Communicating with GM teachers and authorities to ascertain resource requirements

7.

Keeping up to date with new linguistic and educational guidelines regarding Gàidhlig as a subject, language and language development, and participating in training courses as appropriate

8.

Liaising with appropriate bodies, as agreed by Stòrlann CEO, to enhance Stòrlann’s reputation and standing, and to contribute to resource development in the relevant areas

9.

Extending Stòrlann’s information services by all practical means but particularly through newsletters, media and press releases

10.

Ensuring that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in a safe manner so that no risk to health and safety arises to you, any other employee or member of the public

11.

Driving when required to execute the responsibilities of the post

12.

Any other duties which are compatible with the grade of the post and may need to be allocated from time-to-time to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the service
