Collaboration between Scotland and Ireland to publish the book 'Mar a chuala mise e'.

8 November 2011

Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig – The National Gaelic Resource Agency, and Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment which has responsibility for Irish educational resources in Northern Ireland, have come together to publish a collection of re-told traditional tales entitled ‘Mar a chuala mise e’.

A writer from each country was commissioned because of their knowledge of traditional stories and education.

Both books are published in exactly the same way with the same illustrations and stories, but for the Gaelic and Gaeilge language change.

Reading this resource will raise awareness for schoolchildren of the cultural similarities between the two countries.

Most of the stories in the collection are originally from Scotland or Ireland. Some stories from other countries have also been included to show that stories travel the globe.

Teachers notes will accompany the book and will shortly be available to download from our website.
